High-flying Bassett are given a jolt

Leaders Wootton Bassett suffered a setback in their Wiltshire Youth League Under 13 Red Division match at Malmesbury as they went down by 53 runs.

Malmesbury were indebted to Tom Dally, who produced a powerful but composed knock of 73 in their total of 137 in 30 overs. Sam Packer (4-26 off seven overs), Ravi Samant (2-19 off seven) and Robbie Pamphilon (2-26) took the wickets.

Sam Burdock and Alistair Wood (23) fought hard against an accurate attack.

Burdock had to retire hurt and, after Wood was dismissed, Bassett faltered to 67-7. Burdock returned to finish on 20 not out but Bassett were dismissed for 84, Ben Saunders (2-5), Dally (2-19), Matthew Beck (2-19) and Ben Dickinson (2-4) sharing the wickets.

Swindon moved to within a point of Bassett following a comfortable 154-run victory at Devizes.

Swindon scored an imposing 212-4 declared after 31 overs, Steve Laggett (80) leading the way, with other contributions from Matthew Cheethan (32), Tom Law (28 not out) and Chris Aubrey (25).

Devizes were skittled for 58, Steve Page (2-10), Elliot Knight (2-17) and Will Holmes (2-3) among the wickets.

Under 13 Blue

Westbury opener Richard Mills savaged the Purton bowling as he scored 112 out of the visitors' daunting total of 257-4 in just 30 overs.

And in reply, the home side were dismissed for just 20 to leave Westbury winners by a massive 237-run margin.

Calne found life difficult in their home match with South Wilts.

The visitors were able to declare at 181-7 after 31 overs and, with seven Calne batsmen failing to score, the home side were dismissed for just 32.

The other game in the division saw Shrivenham defeat Chippenham in their home match.

Chippenham struggled against accurate bowling from Alex Kill (5-28 in seven overs), Alex Bowles (2-15) and Rory Slater (2-22). Only Imraj Heer (22) offered prolonged resistance as they went for 107 in 30 overs.

A 76-run unbroken fourth-wicket partnership between Rory Bethwaite (31 not out) and Bowles (39 not out) saw them to a seven-wicket win after 28 overs. Luke Edwards bowled tidily for Chippenham taking 2-12 in seven.
