PROPERTY consultant Alder King, which has an office in Swindon, has warned that landowners are being asked to do too much when releasing land for development.
Chairman Grant Watson said local authorities' demands on landowners are beginning to stifle potential for the release of sites.
He said: "Landowners are in many instances expected to pay contributions to roads and transport improvements, schools, public services, and increasing amounts towards affordable housing.
"This is beginning to impede development and conflicting with the Government's policies for the regeneration of disused industrial and commercial sites.
"It is clear that new house-building is at a very low level which is affecting the balance of supply and demand and underpinnig the continuing growth of house prices."
