Event offers a chance to meet

A NEW social group for the younger end of the business community in Swindon is about to take its first steps.

Swindon Young Professionals meets for the first time at the Apartment, in Havelock Square, next week.

It has been sponsored by Thring Townsend solicitors and aims to provide a social get-together once a month which is outside the traditional networking events.

Ramona Derbyshire, from Thring Townsend, said: "The idea really was to have an event where all the young professionals in business had the excuse to meet up and get to know each other without any pressure to come back with business cards or new contacts.

"There doesn't seem to be anything out there at the moment.

"We were lucky that once we agreed to test the water Thring Townsend agreed to put some cash behind it.

"We're hoping to see as many people as possible and make it a great night out."

As well as giving younger staff the chance to meet other people working around town, the aim is to help show Swindon is an attractive place to live and work, by getting a social group off the ground.

There is no prescriptive definition on what counts as "young."

So far at least 50 people are expected at The Apartment on Thursday, June 23 with many more having said they were interested but busy that night.

It runs from 6.30pm to midnight.

Potential sponsors, and anyone who would like to organise events in the future, have also been invited to get in touch.
