Caravan has a place in Sarah's art

Sarah Davey shows off her caravan art AN old caravan bought for £175 on the internet has helped earn a student a place at a prestigious art college.

Sarah Davey, 22, of Nythe, Swindon, turned the caravan into a work of art and displayed it in her final degree course show and it has won her a place at the Royal College of Art next term.

She has decorated the whole interior and fittings, including wallpaper, curtains, cushions and tables, and designed and made the clothes and handbags hanging in the wardrobe.

She bought the caravan from the ebay auction website after being inspired by caravan holidays she has taken with her boyfriend Simeon Spencer, also of Swindon, at Weston-super-Mare in Somerset.

"I do love caravans," said Sarah. "The show has been great fun to put together.

"The caravan is like a doll's house but is sophisticated enough for an adult. It was a good way to demonstrate all my art work under one theme.

"Originally I wanted to be a scientist, but I realised while studying for my A levels that I would never be able to sit in an office for any length of time.

"I then became interested in art and have found it is indeed the perfect life for me."

Sarah's caravan has been on show at the Old Truman Brewery in London's Brick Lane as her final project for her BA Honours in printed textiles and decoration course at Middlesex University.

She was a pupil at Dorcan School before studying at both Swindon College and New College.

Her mum Dawn said: "The caravan is lovely. Sarah has always loved bright colours and has done a great job."

The caravan may be coming home to Swindon soon unless someone snaps it up when it goes in a new designers show in Islington soon.

"I would love to keep it," said Sarah.

"But I am not sure where it can be kept."
