Mark of success for schools

THREE Swindon schools have been awarded Artsmark awards from the Arts Council.

The Artsmark award recognises schools which demonstrate a commitment to all art forms, including drama, music, design, dance, literature and sculpture.

The three schools, Hreod Parkway Secondary School, Moredon, Greenmeadow Primary School, Haydon Wick and Noremarsh Community Junior School, in Wootton Bassett, were among 1,161 schools across the country to be given the award.

Andrew Fleet, the headteacher of Hreod Parkway, which won the Silver Artsmark, said: "This is a further stage in the development of the arts at Hreod Parkway.

"We gained Artsmark in 2003 and now we have the accolade of the silver award.

"We are passionate about the arts and the life changing power of artistic work.

"A big thank you to the staff and pupils who have achieved amazing work in this area."

Diane Pritchard, the headteacher of Greenmeadow, said: "I am delighted that the Arts Council has recognised Greenmeadow's progressive, well-balanced arts education programme which enables pupils to work with talented artists.

"There is a huge amount of arts activity going on here.

"For example, in the past year the children have enjoyed input from musicians and theatre groups."

Mary Blockhouse, the headteacher of Noremarsh School, said: "I am delighted that the Arts Council has recognised Noremarsh School's commitment to providing an all-round arts education for its pupils.

"This commitment was demonstrated during the school's carnival arts week."
