Youngsters get on their bikes for charity cash

Jodie Costello at the Ferndale pre-school's pedal push Ref: 77836-25CHILDREN at a Swindon pre-school made a big push for charity. The youngsters at Ferndale pre-School proved you're never too young to start raising funds for a good cause.

They took part in a sponsored pedal-push in the playground of next-door Ferndale Infant School in Ferndale Road.

Around 25 children took part in laps around the playground.

Jayne Greenwood, manager, said: "It went very well. The children enjoyed it very much.

"I think we might have worn them out."

Around £300 was raised at the event and half the funds will be going to Childline and half towards the pre-school's funds.

Mrs Greenwood said: "Because we're a child group we like to help other children."

But it seems there is an educational value even in cycling round a playground.

Mrs Greenwood said: "It's a way for the children to be aware of other children who aren't as lucky as they are.

"And it's also a way of giving them some exercise. This is the fifth year we have done this and we'll definitely be doing it again next year."
