Booklet reveals a world of nature

THE Swindon Services Ranger Team has written an Education In Your Parks booklet, which is free to the public.

Its aim is to educate people about the natural parks and green spaces in and around Swindon.

And it also suggests activities for children in the natural world, including the opportunity to meet Doreen the barn owl, scavenger hunts, make tree spirits and learn about trees and orienteering.

Johannah Fawthrop, Nature for All community liaison officer said: "Nature for All's philosophy is that learning doesn't always have to be indoors and that the outside classroom is a valuable tool for learning."

Many of the activities in the booklet follow the National Curriculum, in particular environmental education and rural studies.

They include ways that children can interact with nature so that they recognise different types of flora and fauna.

Education Ranger Becky Bolton said: "We hope this programme will reach out to Swindon's schools and encourage them to use our high quality service both in our parks and their own school grounds"
