Move towards safer biking

NEW website pages have been launched to try and cut the number of motorcyclists killed on the roads.

The Handle it or Lose it website helps bikers to plan their routes and to see where and why accidents occur.

Steve Lovatt, road safety action plan co-ordinator, said: "We want to reach the more mature, leisure bikers who seem to be involved in an unusually high number of accidents.

"We need to embrace new ideas and technology to target and interact with this particular group and Handle it or Lose it is a new and innovative method."

The new features on the website, which is supported by the Highways Agency, includes maps overlaid with symbols to represent where accidents resulting in death or serious injuries have occurred.

It also invites bikers to share their experiences of problems on the roads as a warning to others, information that will be passed on to the highway authorities.

The site address is www.handleitorloseit.com
