UNSUNG heroes in our midst will get the recognition they deserve with the People of Wiltshire Awards. The annual celebration of Wiltshire and Swindon's finest was launched at the Wroughton Science Museum on Wednesday.
The awards, now in their fourth year, were devised by Wiltshire Council to honour individuals, organisations and businesses that have made outstanding contributions to community life in the county.
Council chairman Bill Moss said: "The launch of these annual awards marks the start of a month-long search to find Wiltshire and Swindon's unsung heroes.
"The awards celebrate everything that is good in Wiltshire and Swindon and we are looking forward to hearing about more amazing achievements of local people."
Categories include youth award, carer in the community, environment award, employer of the year and the good neighbour award.
This year the awards are sponsored by Nationwide building Society, Recycle for Wiltshire, Ringway Parkman and The Orders of St John Care Trust.
The awards are supported by many other organisations, including the Wiltshire Times.
Mr Moss said: "The awards are a true partnership between the county council and many local organisations .
Nomination forms are available from many libraries, doctors' surgeries, youth centres and leisure centres throughout the county and online at www.Wiltshire.giv.uk/peopleofwiltshireawards.htm
Nominations close at 5pm on July 15.
