WILTSHIRE YOUTH LEAGUE: U11 Red Division - AN outstanding all-round performance from Guy Brothwood helped Chippenham defeat visitors Cannings by 13 runs.

In reply, Calne lost a wicket in the first over to Alex Joplin but then Jordan Butler (16no) and Jack Haines (31no, including seven boundaries) batted very sensibly to take Calne to a nine-wicket win in the tenth over.

South Wilts posted a commanding 115-4 at home to Corsham with Jack Mynott (34) and James Haggaty (19) leading the run making.

Malmesbury batted first at Wootton Bassett and managed 69-8 off their 20 overs. Jack Dymoke (2-13) and Gregory Davies (2-6) were the main wicket takers for Bassett.

The Bassett reply centred around a fine innings of 33 not out from Dymoke who steered his side to victory with four overs in hand. G Royle took 2-12 for Malmesbury.

A fine innings of 38 from Craig Miles was the backbone of Purton's total of 74-5 at Biddestone. Accurate bowling from the visitors then restricted Biddestone to 43-8 to leave Purton winners by 31 runs. Ryan Riddett was the most successful Purton bowler with 3-3 off four overs.

Lewis Hamill (2-24) and Ben Kenway (2-65) were the leading wicket takers for Calne. The visitors lost early wickets as J-P Yalden (3-27), Stuart Smedley (3-31) and Aaron Stevens (2-17) bowled well for Bassett.

Only Oliver Wall, with a defiant unbeaten 34, offered much resistance as Calne were bowled out for 128 to leave Bassett comfortable winners.

The home side's reply got off to a blistering start with David Medhurst scoring a rapid 30 and at the end of the tenth over Westbury were 60-1.

Alsop then took two wickets in his first spell to stem Westbury's progress before coming back in a second devastating spell to take a further five wickets. Alsop finished with the remarkable figures of 7-7 off 6.3 overs and with Rory Brown taking 2-28, Westbury collapsed to 90 all out.

Malmesbury entertained Purton at home and had no hesitation in batting first. A rapid opening partnership on the quick and bouncy home track meant that the first wicket fell with the score at 33 in the fifth over.

Two quick wickets then fell but a steadying patnership of 48 in 11 overs developed between the young opener Robert Gillespie (22) and Gareth Shellard. Shellard and Simon Newman (27) then dominated and enabled Malmesbury to declare on 230-8.

Shellard made an impressive 81 in 31 overs and Liam Jones took 4-34 for Purton. Miles (45) led the Purton reply but he had little support and the visitors were dismissed for 92 to leave Malmesbury winners by 138 runs. Luke Baker (3-1) took a hat-trick for Malmesbury, with all three batsmen bowled, and Shellard took 2-13.

Matches at Chippenham and Biddestone, against Devizes and South Wilts respectively, were abandoned due to rain.
