Firms fuel claim bids

COMPANIES which do not contest legal claims by employees could be helping fuel a "compensation culture".

Of the 115,042 applications received by the employment tribunal service in the year 2003 to 2004, almost half were settled by the Advisory Conciliation and Arbitration Service.

Croner financial services says too many firms are trying to avoid any stain on their reputations by settling their claims out of court.

This leads to unscrupulous employees claiming because they think they will receive some kind of settlement regardless how outlandish their compensation claim.
