New homes plan is turned down

Planning applications for two new homes in the oldest part of Wootton Bassett have been refused, to the delight of local residents.

On Thursday North Wiltshire District Council turned down proposals from AG Developments, based near Chippenham, to build two detached houses with garages at plots one and two The Willows, Rope Yard.

The applications, which had been refused once before during March, were considered unsuitable.

The district council said it had refused the developments because their scale and relationships with the existing development would have an overbearing and adverse effect on the character and amenities of the area.

They would also have resulted in an unacceptable level of additional traffic using a sub standard access, contrary to policies RH8 & RH15 of the North Wiltshire Local Plan 2001, said a statement from the council.

Numerous residents voiced their concerns at the applications when they were considered by the Wootton Bassett Town Council planning committee.

The committee objected to the applications due to traffic concerns and the narrowness of the road.
