Book in for a rewarding job

THIS month Wiltshire's libraries are holding events to celebrate the work of library volunteers.

These generous people give their time to choose and deliver books and tapes to people who are housebound and unable to get to a library.

As a mark of appreciation, certificates will be awarded to all those who have been serving the community in this way for more than a year.

The events will be held at Devizes, Salisbury, Melksham and Chippenham. Wiltshire libraries are also appealing for more volunteers. Anybody interested in volunteering should contact their local library.

Jo Barnes, special services librarian for Wiltshire, says: "Demand for the home service grows all the time as we have an increasingly elderly population with less family support than in the past.

"Our customers are people who have lost their mobility, but want to keep up their reading and listening interests. It's a rewarding and enjoyable job to visit people who really appreciate their books and tapes."
