Scouts' scarecrows help charity cause

GARDENERS have a new weapon in the battle against birds, after they took a delivery of scarecrows from Bemerton Scout Group.

The Scouts have been working on the scarecrows as part of a marathon challenge, which has seen them attempting 26 activities in a sponsored scheme to raise money for a leukaemia charity.

On Friday, the Scouts and their leaders carried the scarecrows from their headquarters in Heath Road to Fisherton allotments.

"Demand for the scarecrows was very high," said Scout leader Tina Bradley. "I expect we looked quite an interesting group as we took them to the allotments but the Scouts have done an excellent job and the scarecrows look great."
