Student in court following attack

UNIVERSITY student Fakhruz Zaman has been charged with paying an accomplice to carry out a vicious attack.

Shemon Miah, 22, lost part of his ear and needed 60 stitches after the attack in Broad Street during the evening of February 19.

Business management student Zaman, of Bourne Road, Moredon, is charged with paying an acquaintance 21-year-old Jeris Ryan to carry out the assault.

Zaman, who is studying at Southampton University, is charged with conspiring to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, and appeared at Swindon magistrates' court yesterday.

He was denied bail, and remanded in custody until June 13, when a preliminary hearing will be held at Swindon Crown Court.

Ryan, of Beaulieu Close, Toothill, has pleaded not guilty causing grievous bodily harm.

He will stand trial in September, and is in custody.
