A good turn leads to theft

A WOMAN conned her way into the home of a Rodbourne resident and stole £50 in cash.

At about 8pm on Saturday a woman knocked on a door in Montagu Street, Rodbourne, asking to use the toilet.

She then said she had nowhere to stay for the night and the male occupier agreed to let her sleep overnight in his home.

The next morning she had disappeared before the man got up. He then found £50 missing.

The woman was white, about 40 to 45 years old, about 5ft 7in, with short dark hair and an unkempt appearance.

Swindon police warn the public, particularly residents in Rodbourne, to be aware of a female turning up on their doorstep on the pretence of needing shelter for the night or a lift.

Police spokeswoman, Alvina Kumar said: "Remember that bogus callers use a range of scams to convince you to let them into your home and we encourage all residents to be extremely sceptical of anyone who turns up on their doorstep pretending to be in need."

Witnesses are asked to call, Swindon police on 01793 528111.
