Survivor's dream

CAR crash survivor Michael McCann is now looking forward to his forthcoming wedding. The 38-year-old, of Abbey Meads, spent three months at the Great Western Hospital recovering from the Pinehurst Road accident.

Shortly after coming around from sedation, Michael, took his survival as a sign and promptly asked Diana Tearall to marry him.

The couple, who have two young children, are scheduled to tie the knot at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Tovey Road, on August 20.

And Michael, who was left in a wheelchair but is now getting around with one crutch, will realise his dream of walking down the aisle.

Since the smash, he has been learning to walk and talk again.

His sister Olivia said: "He is making brilliant progress and is a lot more independent.

"But he is feeling quite depressed at the moment."

The accident left Michael with limited movement on his right side and he suffered a broken rib cage, broken collarbone and collapsed lungs.

On top of these injuries and after hearing about the tragic loss of his friend, Matthew Styles, Michael was dealt another blow when news of his nephew's death broke.

Only five days after the crash Mitchell McCarthy, 10, was hit by a car in Queens Drive while riding his bike.
