Driver's lucky escape

Emma Carter after her accident yesterdayADMIN assistant Emma Carter can't believe she's still alive after a dramatic crash yesterday left her upside down inside the roof of her car with a fence post stuck in the engine.

Miss Carter, 23, of Brinkworth, was driving to work in the rain at Swindon-based car fleet company Arval, when her car left the road on the B4042 near Ballard's Ash, Wootton Bassett.

Her car, a Renault Clio, slid up the grass verge before mounting the hedge, colliding with a fence, flipping over and rolling several times before coming to a halt upside down on the road. "I wasn't going fast and I don't know what happened. I ended up hanging upside down with all the windows smashed not knowing what had happened," she said.

"I'm just amazed I'm still here and have managed to walk away I've got a few cuts and bruises and a headache but it could have been much worse."

Passers-by helped Miss Carter out of the car before emergency services including fire engines, ambulance and police arrived.
