Ryan bids to make league return

RYAN Weisberg is determined to make sure it is not three strikes and you're out as he looks to resurrect his career at Melksham Town.

The 20-year-old has arrived at the Conigre via spells at Southampton, Aston Villa and Bristol Rovers and is refusing to let a string of rejections put a dent in his professional ambitions.

Bristol Rovers became the third league club to release him in the last six years in the summer after he had just finished a three-year YTS scheme.

He briefly moved to Screwfix Premier Division side Brislington but is now looking to impress after joining forces with Lee Burns at Melksham.

He said: "I was at Southampton when I was about 13 and then went to Villa. In the end I played in the Premiership exit trials and was noticed by Bristol Rovers.

"Rovers took me on as YTS for three years and it was a fantastic experience. Ray Graydon was then sacked halfway through last season and the new man refused to extend any of the contracts until the end of the campaign.

"He got rid of nearly all the youngsters and of course at the time I was gutted. But you have to get on with things and hopefully I can do enough at Melksham to get people noticing me again."

Weisberg said: "I still believe I can make it in the professional game. I have to work on my fitness but the more I impress at Melksham the more chance of progressing again."
