Beans means money

A SWINDON student will spend four hours in a bath of baked beans today to raise money for the trip of a lifetime.

Gemma Innes, 18, who studies at New College in Swindon, will sit in the bath of cold baked beans at the entrance to Sainsbury's, in Stratton, hoping passers-by will take pity and throw her pennies.

She wants to raise enough money to join the African Conservation Experience in June when she finishes her textiles A-level.

The trip will cost £4,000, which must be raised by April, and Gemma has already organised a host of other fundraising activities, including a bake sale at New College and a 48-hour sponsored silence.

Gemma, who works part-time at the Sainsbury's store, said: "I've deliberately chosen Saturday afternoon because it is the last Saturday of the month, which is always the busiest."

She will be in her baked bean bath from 1pm.
