Is Mick Town's man?

MICK Harford was due at the County Ground today to discuss a deal which would see him installed as Town's new assistant manager.

With the former Nottingham Forest boss, pictured, having now agreed a settlement with the Championship outfit he is free to pursue a new challenge.

Manager Andy King would not be drawn on the identity of the man to replace Mike Walsh at this stage but it is clear Harford is top of his wish list.

King and Harford, 46, have been friends for many years and it isn't the first time the Town boss has tried to persuade his pal to join him in Wiltshire.

However, the Evening Advertiser understands that some work remains to be done before Harford agrees to commit himself.

There is no doubt though that King will be doing his level best to convince his friend to come on board.

Harford was expected to watch Town's players being put through their paces at training before sitting down and discussing the future with King.

After Saturday's 2-2 draw with Torquay United King dropped a strong hint that change is afoot.

He said: "I think change may be in the wind but I'm not prepared to discuss it until it's finalised.

"If it happens on Monday, which perhaps it will, you'll know about it then."

Harford was strongly linked with a role at Town a few weeks ago only for King to cry that the media had put two and two together and come up with five.

The players are also aware that something is brewing in the coaching department.

Sam Parkin, scorer of both Town goals at Torquay, believes a new face, whoever it might be, will be a plus.

The 23-year-old said: "It can only be a positive thing, someone coming in.

"He's going to have his own ideas and maybe a little bit of input so everyone will need to maintain the way they're playing.

"I'm sure it'll give everyone a positive boost."
