Place your bets to raise cash for church appeal

A race night in aid of the Christ Church Skyline Appeal takes place next week in Swindon.

The Devizes Road Church Hall is to play host to the Christ Church Skyline Appeal Race Night and Fish and Chip supper on March 5.

The event will raise funds for the appeal, which was launched in November 2001 to fund repairs and improvements to the Old Town church.

So far around £350,000 has been raised. This will enable an early start on urgent work to the spire, which is due to be scaffolded at the end of March.

The spire repair should be completed by late September.

The next major task will involve the roof and body of the church itself.

Nicola Grosvenor, Skyline Appeal events co-ordinator, said: "We're very grateful indeed for the support given by local people, groups and organisations. Please help us to keep up the momentum."
