'I'd rather drink in my local' says attack victim

SCOTT Woodward sips the froth off a pint and rubs his recently healed jaw as he recalls his last ever night out in Swindon town centre.

The 21-year-old builder hasn't ventured into town for a drink since the night he was viciously set upon by boozed-up thugs.

He was knocked unconscious in Regent Street, and left writhing in agony with a broken jaw that had to be fixed with metal plates.

The Coleview resident isn't surprised at the survey results, and is bitterly disappointed at the current state of his hometown.

He had only just moved back to Swindon after a spell in Cirencester, and was looking forward to a few drinks with a friend when he was assaulted.

"It's a really sad state of affairs, I mean if you can't feel safe in your hometown, where can you feel safe?" he asked."

He has only hazy memories of the unprovoked attack in September.

"I was walking towards the Brunel Rooms when I heard someone behind me," he said.

"The next thing I knew I was stumbling around with a broken jaw."

Scott would now rather drink in his local the Sandgate in Stratton than the more fashionable town centre bars.
