Retirement flats get the go-ahead

PLANS for 40 new retirement flats in Warminster won the approval of town councillors on Monday.

The complex, earmarked for the Octagon Garage site in George Street will include 30 one-bedroom and 10 two-bedroom flats, a laundry service, security system and communal lounge.

A representative for developer McCarthy and Stone said the close proximity to the town meant car parking would not be an issue.

Cllr Les Rose, who backed the scheme, said: "My only concern is about the loss of jobs if the garage cannot find a new site.

"However, the building is in keeping with the rest of the street and the developers have worked hard to create an attractive design."

West Wiltshire District Council's planning committee will debate the plan at a future meeting.
