Tax bill goes up

WILTSHIRE County Council's Cabinet is recommending a rise of 3.9 per cent in next year's council tax bill.

This would increase the bill for a Band D property by £33 to £885.

A final decision on the council tax and next year's budget will be made by the full council on February 8.

The Tory run county council has been boosted by an increase in grant from central Government. The figure is still to be finalised but is likely to be an increase of £22 million or 9.4 per cent.

Based on these figures, the cabinet is recommending spending just under £409 million on services.

The cabinet is also proposing that a projected overspend of £2.75 million be funded from its balances.

However, if the overspend goes above this, it will be rolled over into next year's budget.

Council leader Jane Scott said taking £2.75 million would reduce the balances to £3.7 million.
