Wheeler is staying put

WESTBURY United manager Paul Brickley is confident striker Wayne Wheeler will be staying at Meadow Lane.

The striker is the subject of seven days' notice of approach from Melksham Town but Brickley insists he has already pledged his loyalty to the club.

Melksham boss Nigel Tripp was expecting to talk to Wheeler after the weekend and the news will come as a blow as he looks to add more fire power to his squad.

Brickley said: "I spoke to Wayne at training on Wednesday night and he has told me he is definitely staying with us.

"He believes the club is going in the right direction and he said he wanted to stay to be a part of it all. I am delighted because he is a very good footballer. He has been here about three years and it shows loyalty still exists in the game."

Westbury entertain Street tomorrow in a Screwfix League Division One encounter and will still be without the injured Jerad O'Pray and James Dowd. Steve Seals rejoins the squad after his recent unavailability.

Melksham Town manager Nigel Tripp has called for a "big response" from his side in tomorrow's match at home to Exmouth.

He was furious with Saturday's Wiltshire Senior Cup exit to lower league Cricklade and has promised changes for tomorrow.

He said: "That was simply not good enough and the players know it. Ryan Trowbridge, Lee Burns and Liam Byfield will all come straight back in after missing that match.

"It is up to the players now to put in a big performance because I think they owe it to the whole club."
