Man fined for assaults

A WARMINSTER man has been fined more than £300 for a series of assaults against his ex-girlfriend's family.

Stuart Milliken, 21, of Portway Lane pleaded guilty to one count of actual bodily harm, one count of common assault and one public order offence at Chippenham Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Andy Pritchard, prosecuting, said Milliken went to his ex-girlfriend's house in Portway Lane on at about 2am on November 20 after he had been drinking.

The conversation between Milliken and his ex-girlfriend became heated and her brother and mother's partner became involved.

Milliken ended up giving her brother a number of blows to the head and then headbutted her mother's 53-year-old partner.

Roger Stanbury, defending, said Milliken had an eight-month-old daughter with his ex-girlfriend and he had visited her frequently since they had split up.

He said: "They have been getting on reasonably well since the split but he goes round there fairly late and often after he's had a drink.

"This hasn't been a problem until this occasion. They give him a cup of tea, he sees the child and off he goes."

On this occasion Milliken, a tyre fitter, had gone to the house to borrow money to pay for a taxi.

Mr Stanbury said: "He wasn't particularly well received at that time of day as you can imagine as they were all in bed."

He said Milliken's behaviour was not helped by the anti-depressant drugs he was taking.

On Christmas Day, Milliken was arrested and charged for shouting abuse at police officers in Warminster.

He was fined £300, ordered to pay £86 costs and given a three-month curfew order to stop him going to his ex-girlfriend's house after 8pm.
