Plan is opposed

WARMINSTER Town Council has reinforced its opposition to the planned conversion of the Beckford Centre into sheltered housing.

London-based developer Farlane Property Group Ltd wants to convert and extend the Gipsy Lane centre into 24 sheltered apartments and a community hall.

Town councillors unanimously objected to the plans in November, but they were withdrawn before West Wiltshire District Council got to vote on them. On Monday Farlane's revised plan came before the Warminster committee.

Members still felt the road was too narrow for the project and nearby homes would be adversely affected. They voted four to three in favour of refusal.
