Wheeler's in demand as Tripp moves in

MELKSHAM Town manager Nigel Tripp is hoping to boost his side's firepower with the signing of Westbury United's Wayne Wheeler.

Tripp has put in a seven days' notice of approach for the striker and is hoping to talk to him over the weekend.

He said: "Wayne has done well at Westbury and we are a bit short of numbers upfront at the moment.

"We are playing well and have had some good results but more competition for places can never do any harm."

Melksham entertain Wiltshire League side Cricklade tomorrow in the first round of the Wiltshire Senior Cup and Tripp is hoping for a good run.

He said: "It is the only cup competition we are left in now and so it is our last chance for silverware this season.

"We will be taking it very seriously and hoping to book our place in the second round. It is important we keep a settled side and try and keep the momentum up that we have got in recent weeks.

"This competition is a good way to show everyone how much we have improved."

Melksham then travel to Brislington for a Screwfix League match on Tuesday night.

Westbury United entertain Wiltshire League side Marlborough tomorrow in the first round of the senior cup and manager Paul Brickley is expecting to name the same squad as Saturday's draw at Ilfracombe.

He said: "There is no chance we will be taking this game lightly as we want to win every game we can.

"Staying in the league is obviously our priority but it would be nice if we could enjoy a cup run as well.

"I have watched Marlborough before and they are quite a good footballing side so I am expecting them to give us a good test.

"They may be in the league below but no-one here will be taking them lightly."
