Drivers told to stay off verges

SWINDON Council is cracking down on motorists who damage grass verges in Penhill.

Several Penhill Drive residents have been sent letters warning them that they will have to pay for further damage outside their homes.

Coun David Glaholm (Lab, Penhill) said: "The verge was damaged so badly that the council had to rotivate it.

"Letters have been sent to certain individuals saying they will have to pay if it happens again.

"We are concerned because if someone slips on mud on the footpath, the council is liable."
