Praise for public's generosity

TSUNAMI IN ASIA: A CHARITY worker from Warminster praised the goodwill of town residents after raising over £4,000 for the tsunami appeal.

Prudi Hoggarth, 62, of Emwell Road, single-handedly organised the collection outside Safeway on New Year's Eve to help the victims of the disaster.

She asked several well-known local faces to help, such as town councillor Les Rose, and Digby Barker from the Warminster Lions.

Mrs Hoggarth said: "It was a wonderful day and truly amazing to see people being so generous.

"I had a really good Christmas and so I thought I really should do something to help. I wanted to do something in the town's name so we set up the Warminster branch of the Disaster Emergency Committee."

Cllr Rose said: "I had one pensioner send me a £200 cheque that was their heating allowance. I've never seen such generosity before, it was really amazing.

"Prudi did a really good job of organising everything and I would like to thank everyone who gave their money so generously."

Mrs Hoggarth has also planned a second collection in the town tomorrow.
