Architect killed

ONE of the country's top architects has died after being crushed under a tree he was felling in woods behind his home near Bradford on Avon.

Richard Feilden, 54, died on Monday when he was chopping down a tree in the woods behind his home in Warleigh.

The-father-of-three was co-founder of Bath architect firm Feilden Clegg Bradley.

The firm, which designed the Wiltshire Music Centre in Bradford, won the Architect of the Year award at the end of 2004. Mr Feilden received an OBE in 1999 for his services to architecture.

A spokesman for the firm said: "Richard had an immense appetite for life and the next challenge. He brought enthusiasm and vitality to everything he did."

Close friend Vicky Landell Mills, the mayor of Bradford, said: "His death is a tragic loss of somebody who was in his prime."

His funeral will be held at Bath Abbey on January 14 at midday.
