National Village Championship

GOATACRE came away fromold rivals Redlynch on Sunday with one of the largest victory margins in the history of the competition.

Rob Turner and Steve Gee gave them a solid start with a partnership of 38 before Turner was caught behind. This brought Scott Curwood to the crease and the tempo increased as Gee found his timing and Curwood scored regular boundaries.

Their partnership had reached 131 when Curwood was out LBW for a fine 62. This brought in Peter Turner and he and Gee flayed the bowling to all parts as 128 runs came from the last ten overs.

Gee fell with two overs to go, stumped for an excellent 92, but Turner carried on and with the aid of 7 huge sixes, reached 92 not out from just 42 balls as the Redlynch bowling fell apart.

In reply Redlynch struggled for runs against tight bowling by Adam Iles and Curwood who took 2 for 4 from eight overs. The introduction of Rahn Heer saw the middle order blown away as he took four wickets in his first three overs, finishing with 4 for 17. A wicket apiece for Iles & Rob Turner and the final two for Jonathan Wilkins saw Redlynch all out in 24 overs for 51, with only Truckle making double figures.

Goatacre will play either Shrewton or Erlestoke at home on May 30 in the group semi-final.
