CHIPPENHAM finally got their season under way and started well picking up a 47-run win over Weston at Hardenhuish.
Chippenham captain Jason Searle won the toss and elected to bat first and saw his side make 195 for five in their 50 overs.
Richard Bates and Mark Hunt made a steady start at the crease. The pair put on 40 runs for the opening wicket before Hunt was bowled for ten by John Williams.
Ian Merryweather then joined Bates and he scored 33 before being bowled LBW by Williams with the run total at close to 100.
Bates then had another stand with Jace Norton and the opening batsman was the backbone of the Chippenham innings reaching 83 before succumbing to Williams.
Norton made 14 before being run out by Ed Brown while (18no) and Paul Bates (22) also chipped in to increase the run rate in the last ten overs.
Chippenham finished on 195-5 after 50 overs and immediately set about the Weston batsmen.
The visitors were soon in trouble with their reply as Paul Bates removed both openers with only seven runs on the board.
Weston's Ed Brown put on 25 and Morgan at number five showed some resistance as he reached 28. But Jason Searle made the vital breakthrough by taking the wicket of Brown with Ian Merryweather making the catch.
After that Weston never really had another decent stand. Only Rob Tasker, batting at number six, gave them hope as he made 37. But Searle again struck the killer blow having Tasker caught at deep square leg by Lawton. Weston were 158 all out with four overs to spare.
Calne v Chippenham
CHIPPENHAM raced to a 131 run win over their neighbours in their first Wiltshire Sunday Cup tie of the season.
Openers Jack Humphrys (85) and Jace Lawson (86) put Chippenham in control with a first wicket partnership of 111 and with Liam Dawson adding 21 and Paul Sykes 28, they finished on 259 for six in their 40 overs.
Calne were always up against it and with Liam Dawson claiming figures of five for 16 off 7.4 overs, they were out for 128 in the 38th over.
