Cinderford St John v Malmesbury

MALMESBURY suffered a disappointing loss on Saturday when they were all out for 112 chasing Cinderford's total of 197.

The visitors suffered a blow even before they took to the field with four players pulling out before the game. Despite that Malmesbury started well as their bowlers looked to make inroads into the Cinderford attack.

After 20 overs the home side were on 47-3 and after 30 overs they had been reduced to 89-4 and were on the ropes.

But a dropped catch by Ian Gould hindered Malmesbury's chances. He passed up the opportunity to get House out on 15 and the batsman went on to make 59.

Cinderford started hitting big shots at the end of their innings and finished on 197-6.

For Malmesbury Ian Gould took two wickets from his 12 overs, Ricajrd Mosdell took one wicket from 13 and Ed Shellard two wickets from 11.

Malmesbury had to chase a target of 198 but with no real experience at the top of their order they struggled badly.

Chris Hurst went for a duck and Dan Horton only scored nine off 55 balls.

The only bright point for Malmesbury was the performance of 15-year-old Jack Ward.

The teenager was called up from the seconds at the last minute and top scored with 33 runs off 26 balls.
