Wiltshire Cricket League

Division One

NATIONWIDE were skittled out for just 24, their lowest ever league total, as visitors Westinghouse swept to a comfortable victory.

Earlier steady batting from Chris Ferris 46 not out and John Peake 77 not out saw Westinghouse to 159-1.

Westinshouse's James Penfold was the home's side's chief tormentor, taking 4-7 in 5.4 overs, assisted by John Cleverley who took 4-5 in nine.

Bath Civil Service entertained Collingbourne and batting first scored 231-8. They got off to a rapid start with the openers racing to 50 in 26 balls.

Bath had made 121 before the first wicket fell. Chris Addey 52 and Dominic Paris 61 were the top scorers. For Collingbourne Barry Langford bowled well, ending with 4-42 in 15 overs.

Collingbourne were then restricted to 176-9 with Tom Edmunds 74 and John Fair taking 3-51 in 15 overs and Simon Elliman 3-48 in 13.

Box were indebted to skipper Gerald Hayward's 59 as they struggled against visiting Potterne, being bowled out for 102. Paul Jackson took 4-16 in 15 overs and Alan Sainsbury 2-8. Rob Dowell 35 and Sam Gaiger 36 then helped Potterne to a comfortable seven wicket win. John Tooth took all three wickets for 37 in 10 overs.

Calne scored a modest 153-9 at home to Purton, with Chris Downham and Rob Anstey both getting 30. For Purton Dominic Bowler took 5-40. Mark Gardener 42, Simon Pugh 42 and Ben Collier 25 then helped Purton to a narrow two wicket victory. Liam Botes was the pick of the Calne bowlers with 3-32.

Marshfield gained a narrow eight run win at Great Bedwyn. Dan Watson 69 held their innings together against tidy bowling as they were bowled out for 140. Alan Turnell's 44 was just not enough as Bedwyn closed on 132-8.

Division Two

BURBAGE scored 156 all out at home to Spye Park with Roy Baker 41 and Paul Balcombe 33 top scoring.

For Spye Dave Beal took 3-49 in 14 overs and John Beal 4-51 in 15. Bealwith 35 not out and Ross Paget 44 then helped Spye to a narrow two wicket success with two balls to spare.

At Beanacre Sutton Veny made 186-8 with Steve Brand 39 and Mike Reid 35 not out. Guru Parkin with 3-63 in 15 overs was the pick of the home bowlers. Beanacre were then bowled out for 151, Stuart Wakely 72 and Doug Small 3-35 in 6 overs.

Buscot Park raced to a ten-wicket win at home to Urchfont who they bowled out for 119. Ben Boulton made 23 not out. Ian Mills and Alan Watts were the pick of the Buscot bowlers. Hamish Millar 63 not out and John Morton 35 not out then knocked off the runs needed.

At Cooper-Avon 62 from Derek Wilde and Nathan Mantle 33 bolstered their score to 132 all out against Lechlade for whom Joey waller took 3-11 in 4.5 overs and Mat Sothall 3-15 in nine. Sothall with 35 not out and Paul Rowley 52 then steered Lechlade to a four-wicket win with ten overs to spare. Rich Jory took 4-54 in 15 overs for Cooper-Avon.

Paul Lewis 64 and Steve Thompset 58 not out helped Seagry to 183-5 at home to Swindon Civil Service for whom Chris Harris 3-60 in 15 overs and Andrew Mildenhall 2-37 in 12 shared the wickets. Mike Giddings 69 was then the foundation on which the Civil Service built their four wicket win in the forty third over.

Division Three

PROMOTED Avebury visited Blunsdon and scored 175-9 with John Rheinberg hitting 43. Blunsdon's Garry Spencer took 4-50 in his 15 overs.

Despite a fine innings from Chris Hamblin of 92, Greg Dix with 5-36 in 10.4 overs had the final say as Blunsdon were dismissed for 151 with five overs remaining.

A knock of 100 not out from Clive Iles helped Swindon 3rd to 193-5 at Highworth for whom Mike Garth took 3-28 in 11 overs. Nick Parker, 41 not out, then steered the home side to a four wicket win with 16 balls to spare. Ray O'Neil 3-41 in 12 overs stood out in the Swindon attack.

Nick Mundy, 4-13 in 9.2, for Lambourn helped bowl hosts Heytesbury out for 96. Ian Hobbs 50 not out ensured they then eased to a six-wicket win.

At Moredon Royal Oak visiting Cherhill made 137 all out with Alan Butt 42 not out as Phil Moreton took 5-41 in 15 overs for Royal Oak.

Garry Vaughan responded with 5-22 in ten overs and Ben Webber 3-20 in 11 as they helped dismiss Moredon for 115; despite a solid 44 by Barry Sellar.

Wanborough's ground was still unfit for their scheduled match against Wroughton Wranglers.

Division Four

KEEVIL struggled for runs at Coates and closed at 110-9, with Scot Mcallister taking 5-23. Thanks to Wayne Sanderson 38 not out and Simon Richards 21 Coates then finally won by two wickets.

The closest game of the day was at Dauntsey Gentlemen where they were restricted to 138-8 by visiting Wilcot. The visitors' Tony Summer took 4-28 in 15 overs as Dauntsey's Alan Smith made a valuable 69. Steve Bennet then took 4-33 in 15 overs as Wilcot fell agonisingly short at 137-7 to lose by a run.

At Litten Tree, Westbury 3rd were indebted to 41 from Micky Ball which helped them to 86 all out as Julian Brown took 4-19 in 12 overs and Garry Comley 3-18 in eight. Kevin Crook 38 and Robert Mercer 23 then saw Litten tree home by six wickets with eighteen overs to spare.

Division Five

A SPELL of 5-12 in 6.2 overs by Mike Stratton for United Churches saw visitors Burbage & ER 2nd bowled out for 87. Andy Foster's rapid 56 not out saw Churches to a comfortable eight wicket win after just 16.1 overs.

Buscot Park 2nd.XI were bowled out for 99 at Purton 2nd, for whom Chris Woolford took 4-40 in 15 overs. Dave Allen's 58 not out saw Purton home by eight wickets and with 20 overs to spare.

Warminster 3rd entertained their Devizes counterparts and lost an exciting game by one wicket with two balls remaining. Warminster, thanks to skipper Colin Webb's 52, and Dave Watkins with 40, reached 209-9. Steady batting down the order then saw Devizes home. Lavington have decided to withdraw from this division.

Division Six

GOATACRE 3rd made 219-7 thanks to Andy Donnegan's 74, Richard Grieg' 59 and 61 extras at home to Chippenham 3rd, for whom Chris Day took 5-36. Day then made 74 in a Chippenham reply of 191 all out. Donnegan took 3-40 in his 15 overs.

Box 2nd were bowled out for 72 at Beehive Bradford for whom Adrian Day took 3-15 in 9 overs. Lee Hambley with 29 not out and John Shepherd with 33 helped the home side to an easy nine wicket win.

Calne 2nd made 178-6 at Lacock with Rob Green 52 not out and Charlie Doel taking 2-26 in 13 overs. He then top scored with 40 but despite a debut 20 not out from thirteen-year-old Rob Robinson,Lacock were bowled out for 108 in the 31st over.

Richard Sykes 40 and Richard Holman 72 not out steered All Cannings to a respectable 182-4 against Bradford Town 2nd. Adrian Goodall with 40-20 and Keith Bills' 5-21 then shot Bradford out for just 58.

A weakened Wootton Bassett 3rd travelled to Nettleton with only eight players and were bowled out for 56 with John Millington scoring 30 as Tony Blakin took 4-10 in 8.4 overs. Ian Witt 22 and Anthony Mills 22 not out then helped Nettleton to a eight wicket win in 13.3 overs.

Division Seven

RUNS were hard to get at Cherhill 2nd where Marshfield 3rd were bowled out for 90 as Malcolm Parrack took 4-13 in 15 overs. Rob Iles responded with 4-40 in his 15 overs but thanks to 41 from Malcolm, Cherhill gained a narrow three wicket victory with four overs to spare.

John Gale top scored with 34 in a Corsham 4th total of 94 as Aravindan took 5-8 in six overs for visiting Cooper- Avon Tyres 2nd. Despite Martin Hick then taking 4-34 in 15 overs Cooper-Avon managed a three-wicket victory with nine overs remaining.

Trowbridge A made 196 all out at home to Dauntsey Gentlemen 2nd, with Dave Gibson leading the way with 69 as Mel Camish took 4-34 in 12 overs. Dauntsey started well in reply and with Garry Mitchell 54 had reached 84-0. They then slumped to 137-9 as Vinny Elliott took 4-42 in 15 overs and Rob Brown 4-9 in six.

A close match at Potterne saw visiting Beanacre 2nd gain a narrow one wicket win with five overs to spare. Potterne scored 147 all out with Ashley Wrench 40 and Mark Wiltshire taking 4-31. In Beanacre's 151-9 Dave Gilbert made 57 and Ken Gover took 3-47.

Collingbourne 2nd rattled up 215-6 at home to Bath Civil Service 2nd with Dave Gale 68 not out and Rob Stamp 37 top scoring. Nathan Young then picked up 3-8 in eight overs as the visitors were bowled out for 108.

Division Eight

IN a rearranged match on Sunday Warminster 4th entertained United Churches 2nd. Batting first Warminster made 231 all out. For Churches, Andy Foster took 5-32 in ten overs and John Pazzard 3-23 in 7.2.

In reply Foster scored 52 and Dave Mead 56 but with few meaningful contributions United Churches were bowled out for 170 in the 38th over. For Warminster Mike Woolard took 4-64 in 12 overs and Don Shallow 3-44 in 11.1.

Warminster travelled to Devizes 4th and made 205-9, Chris Ducker 62 and Bob Shallow 50 top scoring. For Devizes Paul Pitman, Darwin Keen, Johnathan Moulder and Andy Goodfield each picked up two wickets.

Devizes were then 120-6 as Dave Roberts took 3-45 in his 15 overs but after Lee Pitman 20; Alan Bisset 69 not out and Andy Goodfield 21 not out saw Devizes to only their second league victory by four wickets.

A low scoring game at Swindon saw the home side's 4th restricted to 119-8, with Kevin Thompson on 36, by some cccurate Highworth 2nd bowling.

In reply Highworth fared even worse, being dismissed for 91 as Nathan Iles took 3-26 in 7 overs and Adjan Quasi 4-11 in 9.1. David Coates 17 was Highworth's top scorer.

All Cannings 2nd were shot out for their lowest league total of just 46 at Biddestone 3rd, for whom Paul Tasker took 2-8 in ten overs and Chris Jones 2-17 in eight. A 20 not out from Neil Millard then helped Biddestone to a seven wicket win.

Chippenham 4th batted well to make 200-6 at home to United Churches 2nd. Majid Qureshi 52, Azad Qureshi 26, Tom Young 34 and Pat Davis 28 top scorer as Azzad took 3-66 in 15 overs. Churches were then bowled out for 95 with Majid taking 5-12 in 7 overs and Phil Triner 5-34 in 8.

Blunsdon 2nd travelled to Bathford 2nd and scored 155 all out with Chip Phillips 45 and Adam Cousins taking 4-38 in ten overs. Dan Butter, with 4-17 in 6.5, then helped bowl Bathford out for 79.
