THE Swindon District side finally got to put their talents to the test against their compatriots from the North Wilts.
North Wilts won the toss and elected to bat first, and got off to a solid start. But two run outs, with fine throws from William Snell (Shrivenham) and David Miles (Swindon), removed both openers. Then excellent spells of spin bowling from Ravi Samant (Wootton Bassett) and Will Holmes (Swindon), supported by the medium pace of Snell, put the brakes on the North Wilts innings.
But Robert Gillespie was still there, and proceeded to register a fine knock of 37 not out supported by Craig Edwards (19), who produced some fine shots to add late impetus to the innings, which finished at 95-4 after 30 overs.
Chasing the total, North Wilts quickly took the advantage as Toby Jackson removed Scott Winskill (Shrivenham) in the first over, however Johnathan Sore (Swindon) and William Snell then started to build a foundation for the innings, before Snell fell caught by Gillespie. Alex Bowles (Shrivenham) played some excellent shots but couldn't pierce the well marshalled North Wilts field.
Trying to increase the pace Sore fell, bowled by man-of-the-match Gillespie.
Cameos from Will Holmes and Thomas Swann brought some much needed impetus but it was too late for Swindon as they finished on 60-8.
