Kirkpatrick bans all talk of trophy treble

NEIL Kirkpatrick has banned any mention of a treble after watching his Trowbridge Town side take a step nearer the Wiltshire League title with a 3-0 win at Malmesbury Vic Reserves on Wednesday night.

The victory came just 24 hours after they lifted the Wiltshire Senior Cup and before the league cup final against Bradford tomorrow.

But the Trowbridge boss insists they will taking it just one game at a time and that the championship is still their priority.

He said: "I don't want to talk about the treble. Football has a funny habit of kicking you in the face so we will just look at each game on its own.

"Cup finals are just a bonus it is the league we want. It should be a close match against Bradford and we will give it our best."

Wednesday's win leaves them four points away from sealing the title although one more win would leave rivals Stratton needing a minor miracle to catch them on goal difference.

Jack Heard opened the scoring in the first half before 17-year-old Matt Minnus scored his first two goals for the first team after the break.

Kirkpatrick said: "We started brilliantly and got the goal we deserved but then for the rest of the half we were all over the place. There were a lot of tired legs out there. After the break they dug in and determination got us through. I was very pleased for Matt Minnus because he has come very closing to scoring before."

Trowbridge have home games against Cricklade on Tuesday, and against Shrewton on Thursday, kick off 6.15.

Bradford manager Mark Hodkinson is looking forward to tomorrow's final at the Southbank, kick of 2pm.

He said: "It should be a good game. Trowbridge will be up for it but so we will so we will have to see what happens on the day."
