Tony pops into town to sign his book

Romantic icon Tony Hadley will be signing copies of his autobiography in Swindon next month.

The singer's turbulent career and personal life are revealed in To Cut a Long Story Short, named after his first hit with 80s band Spandau Ballet.

Tony, former lead singer with the band and winner of ITV's Reborn In The USA, will sign copies at Water-stone's in the Brunel Plaza on Saturday, May 8, from noon until 1pm.

The Spandau Ballet story started in 1976 in the music room at Dame Alice Owen's School in Potters Bar.

This first group, The Roots, was Tony, John Keeble, Steve Norman, Gary Kemp and Michael Ellisson and this was the backbone of numerous bands until Spandau Ballet in 1978 when they were joined by Martin Kemp of EastEnders fame on bass.

In 1980 To Cut A Long Story Short shot to number five in the UK charts.

After bitter rows Spandau Ballet finally disbanded in 1990 and Tony went solo signing to EMI.

The singer is no stranger to Swindon having performed at the Wyvern Theatre and at the Wiltshire Festival twice.

His book costing £16.99 is published by Sidgwick and Jackson and is released on May 7 and costs £16.99.
