Hunt for treasure online

CHILDREN in west Wiltshire could win prizes for their school by getting involved in an online treasure hunt.

Wiltshire County Council is encouraging as many people as possible to take part in a competition to get youngsters researching the county's past through a number of new history websites.

The competition is being run by Sense of the South West in partnership with Window on Wiltshire's Heritage and other online partners.

Project officer Kate Turnbull said: "Window on Wiltshire's Heritage provides a portal to a rich treasure trove of information about Wiltshire's heritage and culture."

Children aged eight to 14 are eligible to enter and could win one of three top prizes of a laptop computer, digital camera and colour printer with scanner.

The competition is open to primary and secondary schools in Wiltshire and details are available on the Sense of the South West website at www.sosw.org.uk
