Trail of gold leads to Belgium

DA5318P3.RISING orienteering stars Emily Benham and Alice Butt are currently in Belgium representing Britain in the ISF World Schools Orienteering Championships in Btgenbach.

Emily of Morgans Vale and Alice of Woodfalls, both qualified for the junior girls team last November at the British Schools Championships in Chester, where Emily won the qualifying race.

Last week, both girls were in buoyant mood.

"I'm going to win," said 13-year-old Emily, who goes to The Burgate School in Fordingbridge.

"And I'm going to beat her," South Wilts Grammar School pupil Alice (14) chipped in.

The pair, who have individually represented their country before, are members of Sarum Club.

Another member, Stefanie Blomquist, is also in Belgium in the senior girls squad.

One of the week's two important races took place yesterday and the other is tomorrow.
