Riley Cup Final - Chalke Valley 3: Hopback United 4NEWLY-FORMED Hopback United lifted the second trophy of their debut season when they beat Chalke Valley in a thrilling 4-3 Riley Cup final.
Hopback took the lead at Bemerton Heath Harlequins' Western Way ground after only 30 seconds when a mistake by Valley 'keeper Chris Hiller allowed Alan Adlam to pounce on the loose ball and rifle home.
Lee Callender equalised on 25 minutes but 13 minutes later, Jesse Walters restored Hopback's lead.
Paul Palmer slotted home a penalty just after the break to level the scores again.
Neither side was able to break the stalemate in normal time, paving the way for an action-packed period of extra time.
Walters scored twice in quick succession to complete his hat-trick and put Hopback firmly into the driving seat early on.
But Valley were not going to go down without a fight. Palmer netted with another spot kick to take the scoreline to 4-3.
With the pressure on, 'keeper Hiller redeemed his earlier mistake, making a series of stops, including a penalty save to keep his side in contention.
However, Hopback hung on to lift the cup.
