Sexual assault

A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged serious sexual assault in the town during the early hours of yesterday morning.

The man, who is in custody at Westlea Police Station in West Swindon, was arrested following a sexual assault against a 20-year-old woman.

The woman had been on a night out with friends and locked herself out of her home. The woman then walked bare-footed along to the restaurants and fast food outlets in Regent Circus at the junction of Victoria Road to use a telephone.

It is alleged that a man offered her assistance and escorted her to her home. It is alleged that a serious sexual assault then took place.

Anyone who may have seen a bare-footed woman between 1am and 1.30am Friday morning, alone or in company with a man, is urged to get in touch with Swindon Police on 01793 528111 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
