Man disarmed

A chainsaw-wielding man was arrested after being disarmed by two police officers. PC Nigel Kinderman and WPC Louise Thorne were threatened by the man, who allegedy waved the saw at them.

But they managed to talk him into dropping the tool before arresting him. Police were called after the man, who was drunk, was allegedly seen brandishing the device at revellers leaving Edwards Bar in Fleet Street.

A 23-year-old man from Oxford was held in custody awaiting interview. Anyone with information about the incident, which happened at 2.30am yesterday should call Swindon police on 01793 528111 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
