Favourites stay the distance

We won the cup. Laverstock & Ford players celebrate their win. DA5300P1.LAVERSTOCK & Ford picked up the Lord Bledisloe Cup with a 3-2 victory over Salisbury & District League outfit Enford.

The Hampshire Division One favourites stormed into a 3-0 lead at Wick Lane, only to take their foot off the gas and allow the underdogs back into the tie late on.

'Stock broke the deadlock on 30 minutes when Dom Male beat the Enford 'keeper to the ball following a long clearance. Male proved the quicker and looped a brave header over the Enford custodian and into an empty net.

After the break, Male claimed a second when his low strike from the left gave the 'keeper no chance. Soon after, his precise cross picked out Newman for the third.

A defensive mistake allowed Enford to reduce the arrears and with five minutes remaining, they netted again to set up a tense finale.
