Strike it rich

RORY FALLON is determined to see his manager's financial 'gamble' pay off by shooting Town to a top six finish. The New Zealander struck twice as Andy King's men romped to a 3-0 win at Luton yesterday.

Victory leaves Town seven points adrift of second-placed Queens Park Rangers and with a healthy six-point play-off cushion.

Fallon fully justified King's decision to start him at Kenilworth Road and terrorised the home defence for 90 minutes.

He said: "It was my first full match for Swindon and one to remember.

"When the ball came back off the crossbar for the first goal I was determined that no-one was going to beat me to it.

"I'd smash anyone who got in my way.

"The second one was a great header from a great ball from Andy Nicholas.

"You have to be harsh on yourself though. I should have had a hat-trick.

"It was a great win but we can't rest. We have to keep going and keep working for each other.

"It doesn't matter who's playing, we have to keep scoring goals."

Fallon has had to be patient since joining Town from Barnsley, a move he feels was a brave one for his manager in the current footballing climate.

He said: "I've come to Swindon and the manager has boosted my confidence unbelievably.

"The gaffer put money on the table to bring me here and it was a risk.

"You don't see too many Second Division players going to other Second Division clubs for money.

"There was pressure and I didn't do myself justice in the first couple of games through nerves.

"Andy King believes in me and I believe in him.

"That's why I'm not going to hassle him about starting. I'm a team man and what matters is the team.

"Still, if I can score a few more to help us finish the season strongly, then great."

King, who likened Fallon to former Luton striker Mick Harford after the match, said: "Sam Parkin and Tommy Mooney have deservedly had things their way this year but now there's a new boy on the block.

"If Rory continues in the way he is, he is going to go a long way in this game. He's turning out to be what I'd hoped he'd be.

"The question is, what do I do for the next game?"

Town's clash at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday is all-ticket for visiting supporters.
