Students praised by award winning tutor

A TUTOR from Wiltshire College has received national recognition for her book-keeping classes at a business awards ceremony in London.

Janet Jonik beat tough competition to win a highly commended award in the Tutor of the Year category, at this year's National Awards for Business Enterprise, on Thursday.

Mrs Jonik was presented with a silver plaque during a black-tie dinner at London's Caf Royal by celebrity Anglo-American comedian and magician, John Lenahan.

Lecturer Mrs Jonik said her award was a credit to her students who had excelled in their studies during the year.

"I am delighted to win this award. My students are brilliant and work really hard and it is as much their award as it is mine," she said.

"The International Association of Book- Keepers courses provide an excellent route into book-keeping and we are doubling the number of courses offered to keep up with the demand."

Wiltshire College is earning a reputation for its book-keeping courses, having notched-up three college and student awards in previous years.

In 2003 students on the college's International Association of Book Keepers were a whisker away from securing a clean sweep of A grades, with 69 out of the 79 achieving the top mark.
