AN Amesbury mum has spoken of the moment her two sons were set upon by vicious dogs.
The incident happened on Tuesday last week, about 4.30pm, just as Georgina Knight (25) and her two boys, Connor (age five) and Charlie (four) were about to enter the underpass on Countess Road.
Two brown-and-black Irish setters surrounded the children and started barking furiously.
The family, who live in Countess Road, were on their way home when the dogs came racing towards the children, one of them knocking Charlie to the ground and biting his arm before both dogs turned on Connor.
Georgina ran to help, frantically trying to scare the animals off with the help of a passerby.
She said: "I was walking a little way behind the boys and heard barking.
"When I got closer, I found my youngest was on the floor and this dog was attacking him and I just didn't know what to do.
"Then they started having a go at my other son and I swung my bags and shouted to try and get them away.
"The public should be aware of these dogs and look out for them.
"I want to know why they were not on a lead."
Eventually, the dogs ran off and a driver stopped to offer the three a lift home.
Although Charlie was not seriously hurt, he has been left badly shaken by the ordeal.
Georgina is now hoping that other children are not targeted by the dogs.
Despite police arriving on the scene within 15 minutes, they could find no trace of the dogs.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "These dogs were both wearing silver collars and ran off down the subway.
"The children have been left traumatised by the incident and we are putting a warning out to the public.
"If anybody does see two large dogs in the area of the underpass, could they contact Amesbury Police, on 01980 623822."
