Celebrations planned

THE Cornelius-Reid family will be hosting a celebration lunch next week to commemorate the inauguration, 21 years ago, of Amesbury Abbey Mews.

Mary Cornelius-Reid, her son David and daughter Naomi, will entertain guests including Sir Richard Bayliss, who opened the sheltered housing complex, at the Mews' dining room on April 16.

From being the first group of sheltered accommodation attached to a nursing home, the Mews has grown from the original 20 apartments to 35 self-contained flats and cottages, where residents enjoy the benefits of independent living while having on-site care from staff.

One of the residents, Elna Ramsden (83) is still living in the same flat she moved into 21 years ago.

Mrs Cornelius-Reid, a former nursing sister, was awarded an OBE two years ago for her work for the elderly. Her son now runs neighbouring Amesbury Abbey Nursing Home and her daughter is involved with the Abbey Group.
