Big increase in litigation

THE number of employment tribunal cases has risen by 50 per cent in the past six years.

EEF South, the regional engineering employers association has also warned that new dispute resolution pro-cedures to be introduced in October will do little to ease the problem.

The survey shows that in the past year the number of cases handled by EEF has increased three per cent to 2,206 cases compared to 2,145 in 2002.

These numbers compare with 1,450 cases in 1998.

Simon Pender, EEF South's head of legal and employment affairs said: "The results of this survey simply confirm that there has been a rising tide of employment litigation which is benefiting nobody in the workplace, certainly not employers."
